Swimming Lessons at Cascade Athletic Clubs
Cascade has been teaching lessons for over 30 years. Small class sizes and individual attention are the cornerstones of our Kids Aquatics Programs. Our instructor to student ratio is the lowest in the Metro Area allowing for more hands on instruction time. Small class size allows instructors to tailor each class to the needs of individual students.
Swimming Lessons are available to all residents of Vancouver, not just members. If you are not yet a member but would be interested in a tour please contact one of our membership specialists.

01. Choose a Session
Sessions are between 3-6 weeks long, depending on the specific class you choose. All sessions consist of 12 – 40min classes.
02. Choose A Level
It is important to choose a swim level that is most appropriate for your child’s age and current abilities. This is important to your child having the best experience and success.
03. Choose Day/Time
Depending on your child’s level we may have a several options available for day of the week and time. Please pick the one that best fits with your schedule as make up classes are not available.
04. Register Your Child
Register online. (If you are a Non Member of Cascade, you will need to come into our Club for the first time to get set up and put a credit card on file.) Please make sure to register at least 5 days prior to the start of a session.

YOUTH LESSONS - SWIM LEVELS
STARFISH | 0-2 YEARS OLD
- Comfort in water while singing and playing activities
- Jump into parents arms
- Putting face into the water and blowing bubbles
- Lesson cue for swimming ( 1, 2, 3 go)
- Assisted back float
- Kicking legs
LEVEL 1 | 0-2 YEARS OLD
- Assisted front & back float and glide
- Introduce front crawl arms
- Assisted front & back glide w/ kick
- Assisted jump into water(head may/may not go under water)
- Blow bubbles
- Put face in water
- Flutter Kick
LEVEL 2 | 3-5 YEARS OLD
- Assisted to unassisted front & back float & recovery
- Assisted to unassisted front & back glide
- Assisted to unassisted front & back glide w/ kick (5ft)
- Equipment assisted front crawl w/o breathing (10ft)
- Bobbing with head fully submerged w/ rhythmic breathing
- Assisted to unassisted rollover from front to back & back to front
LEVEL 3 | 3-5 YEARS OLD
- Front & back glide with kicks: 10 feet
- Full rotation arm circles
- Assisted to unassisted front & back glide w/ kicks: 10 feet
- Assisted to unassisted front float and recovery: 10sec
- Assisted to unassisted back float & recovery: 10sec
- Equipment assisted full rotation arm circles w/ kicks
- Unassisted rollover from front to back and back to front
- Assisted to unassisted jump into chest deep water
- Introduction to front crawl and rhythmic breathing
- Blowing bubbles
- Bobbing 10 times
- Entire head under water
LEVEL 4 | 6+ YEARS OLD
- Assisted to unassisted front crawl w/o breathing: 15ft – Side breathing on the wall: 5 breaths
- Introduction to backstroke
- Assisted elementary backstroke kick – Bobbing to safety: Deep water to shallow water
- Head position: chin up
- Body position
- Underwater exploration
- Jump into chest deep water
- Reaching assist with tube
- Diving safety and sitting dives
- Lifejacket safety
- Arm pull
LEVEL 5 | 6+ YEARS OLD
- Front crawl w/ side breathing: 30 feet
- (with effective flutter kick)
- Back crawl: 15 feet (bent arm pull)
- Elementary backstroke: arms and legs
- Breaststroke kick w/kickboard
- Dolphin kick w/kickboard
- Deep water adjustment: comfortably swim ½ length of lap pool
- Underwater exploration: Deep Water
- Treading water options
- Diving safety
- Reaching assists with tube
- Kneeling dives
LEVEL 6 | 6+ YEARS OLD
- Jump into deep water and level off
- Front crawl w/ side breathing: 1 length of lap pool
- Backstroke: 1 length of lap pool
- Bent arm pull
- Introduction to breaststroke and butterfly arms
- Open turns
- Tread water:30 seconds
- Feet first surface dive
- Throwing assist w/ ring buoy
- Standing dives
- Diving safety
LEVEL 7 | 6+ YEARS OLD
- Front crawl w/ side breathing:
- 2 lengths of lap pool
- Backstroke: 2 lengths of lap pool
- Breaststroke: 1 length of lap pool
- Butterfly: ½ length of lap pool
- Flip turns
- Bobbing in deep water
- Compact dives
- Throwing assist w/ ring buoy
- Diving safety
- Treading water: 1 minute
SHARKS | 6+ YEARS OLD
- Swimming stretches
- Improve front crawl with side breathing
